The Martin family's story with vehicle repair begins long before the modern automobile. In 1898, Austin Martin opened a buggy repair business in Memphis, mending horse-drawn carriages as the city grew around him. When automobiles arrived, the Martins adapted, applying the same craftsmanship to this revolutionary new machine.
In 1960, Tom Martin Sr. founded Tom Martin's Body Shop on Union Avenue, Memphis's storied "auto row." For nearly two decades, he built a reputation for honest work and meticulous repairs that became the gold standard in the Mid-South.
When Tom Sr. suffered a stroke in 1977, his son Tom Martin Jr. left Mississippi State as a sophomore to keep the family business alive. Nearly fifty years later, Tom Jr. still leads the shop with the same values his grandfather instilled: treat every car like it's your own, and stand behind every repair you make.
